If your sidewalk is immediately adjacent to the road, keep the first 8 inches of the gutter clear of snow and ice.
When it gets warm outside, the melting snow will not end up pooling on your sidewalk. Ideally, everyone between your property and the closest storm sewer needs to do this to ensure the water ends up draining away.
If they don’t, consider clearing their gutters for them if it’s not too much work.
